In the first event held this year and with a record number of teams entered, the 2009 Open Championships Channel Islands qualifier took place at Wheatlands Sat 4th April.
In what started out as a grey and misty morning, the 3 man teams from the 9 hole clubs battled it out with last years winners, Wheatlands B team. National Nines Open Champions 2008

Congratulations to Greenisland, from Northern Ireland, who won the finals on Wednesday 1st October with an aggregate team score of 82 points. Team Captain Tim Taggart, pictured inbetween teamates Michael Bennett & Andrew Hartley, scored 31 of the team's points on a very tough day with the weather often beating the golfers. High winds made the Les Ormes course very difficult, but they all battled hard and Greenisland were thrilled with their fine victory.
The team from Great Torrington in Devon were runners-up with 80 points, including the highest individual score on the day of 35 points for team member Mark Hill, and scottish team Gifford came a gallant 3rd with 75 points.

Congratulations to the Muthill team who took the Ladies Matchplay Title in Jersey with a 2-1 victory over English Champions Hampstead.

The Muthill team of Claire & Mairi Milne and Liz Stewart, seen here with reserve player Catherine Stewart, celebrate their win in the sunshine! This does not reflect the conditions at the start of their match when the ladies had to tee off in high winds and horizontal rain! Thankfully the rain stopped, but the winds made the course difficult for everyone.
Both teams are seen here with Elaine receiving their prizes at the Gala Dinner.

The Hampstead team of Beryl Boulderstone, Helen Bagan, Helen Cohen & Sandra Okin.

Congratulations to Brighton & Hove who have won the Ladies' Plate competition. The team of Jo Galway, Emma Gill and Judy McKemey beat Julia Ridley, Jo Marchant and Alison Chapman from Fawkham Valley in a very close match held at Foxbridge Golf Club.

Winners: Jo Galway, Judy McKemey & Emma Gill - Brighton & Hove

Runners-up: Jo Marchant, Julia Ridley & Alison Chapman - Fawkham Valley - seen here with Elaine. |
