The Ryde team consisted of Liz Van Wyk, Diane Skoludek and Julia Fauvel and with their heads held high they took defeat in their stride and congraulated the worthy winners.
A special thank you goes to Shortlands Golf Club for hosting the England final, this gem of a course was enjoyed very much from both teams.

Whiteleaf D whip up a storm to win the last of this year’s National Nines Regional Finals
04.08.10
Whiteleaf Golf Club and hosts of the last regional final of 2010 was hit by two storms in a day. The first storm to hit this hidden gem of a golf course was less than 2 hours after play had got underway. Flooding greens, thunder and lightning meant that play was suspended for just under an hour.
The second to hit this wonderful course started mid-afternoon and this man made storm was provided by the Whiteleaf D team of Nick Gorton, Paul Barratt and Sean McCorrell. They put together a massive back nine total of 54, this saw them storm to top spot with a team total of 99 points and although this score had been posted by the Whiteleaf B team of Simon Walters, Scott White and Stuart Rivett earlier it was the superior back nine score of the Whiteleaf D team which gave them the win and the trip to Jersey for the chance to be crowned The 2010 National Nine Champions.
As for the Whiteleaf B team, they almost pulled off the unthinkable by winning four regionals in four years, we are sure to see them back next year. Third place went to another Whiteleaf team, this was the F team of Dennis Cutten, Jon Hamer and Mike Ginger. They put themselves in pole position in the morning with a front nine score of 53 and they can only be thinking of what might have happned if they had done a bit more than their back nine of 44 = total team score of 97. We know they will be back next year trying to put the record straight. But it is the worthy winners of Whiteleaf D who won and we wish them all the best in Jersey.
We would like to thank Derek Hill, Alan McBlaine and everyone at Whiteleaf Golf Club for a great day. Many thanks to Mike Ginger and all of the groundsman for preparing a great course.

Gifford A worthy winners of Milnathort Final
13.07.10
On another day of perfect weather and on a course that was set up just perfect for this regional final, Gifford A who led at the halfway stage would not be caught and with a team score of 101 they put themselves into the Jersey Grand Final. For the first time in the history of National Nines there are two Scottish teams in the Grand Final. With some super iron play, the team of Robert Waddell with the score of 32, Gordon Burns with a score of 33 and Steven Doyle with a score of 36 are going to be the team to watch at Jersey. Not very far away in second was the team of Gifford B with a score of 99 who only just piped the team of Milnathort B who with a team score of 97 were just a little off the pace.
We would like to thank Tony Jones, Brian Anderson and everyone at Milnathort for a great day and a fantastic welcome. Also a special thank you goes out to the green keepers for laying out a magnificently prepared course.

Killin GC once again go to Jersey
26.06.10
Killin Golf Club once again held a regional final for the National Nines on what was a very pleasant day for golf. The team that won this year was Killin B consisting of Douglas McRobbie, James Ronald and Alec Hutchinson with a score of 106 points. Second place went to Muthill B team consisting of Paul Robertson, John Campbell and Arthur Campbell with a score of 95. Closely followed in third place with a score of 94 was the team from Killin that reached the finals in Jersey last year. The team consisted of Richard Lewis, Gordon Aitken and Hamish Campbell. Highest individual went to Alec Hutchinson with a score of 36 points.
Many thanks once again to Richard Lewis and all of the staff for all of their hardwork to make us feel welcome at Killin Golf Club.

Mahee Island into the Finals
18.06.10

On what was a beautiful sunny day the team from Mahee Island booked their place in the Jersey finals. The winning team consisted of John Bennett, Robert Jellie and Robin Mitchell with a score of 104. Second place went to Temple G&C Club C with a score of 90, their team consisting of Ian Kerr, Paul Douglas and Colin Finlay. The third place went to Temple G&C Club B with a score again of 90, their team consisted of Andy Gill, Roger Cunningham and Lawrence Scott. Highest individual score went to John Bennett with a score of 40.

The Essex boys win at Loughton
09.06.10
On the very picturesque tree lined Loughton Golf Club, Loughton C team consisting of Daniel Tenwick, Luke Winwood and Tony Elley mastered the course to put in a winning score of 102 points to book their place in the Grand Final in Jersey.
The Loughton C team were certainly headed by a very good individual score of 41 from Luke Winwood, their winning total was just enough to hold off the Loughton A team consisting of Stewart Catterall, John Webster and Steve Rushbrooke who came in with a score of 99 points. Third place went to the Loughton D team consisting of Alan Hoskins, Adam Hoskins and Tony Barker with a score of 91 points. This team may well have finished in third place but they certainly had the player of the tournament so far in the young 18 year old. Adam Hoskins with 43 points off a 4 handicap, i.e 3/4 Stapleford was something to be seen.
Many thanks to Barry Francis and all of the staff at Loughton for all of their help in making a great days golf.

The Gosport & Stokes Bay C team consisting of Jim Brotherton, Paul Fowler and Tony Keefe were pushing them all the way with a team score of 97. The third place Gosport & Stokes Bay B team consisting of Geoff Laver, Les Giddings and Dean Rushforth with a team score of 89 did not let them have their own way but in the end it was the F team that steered round course to book a well deserved place in the final. Many thanks to Mark Chivers and all of the staff at Gosport & Stokes Bay for all of their help to make a great day.

Deja Vu at Southwold
21.05.10
The Southwold A team repeat last years win and are back to the Jersey Grand Final. The Southwold A team of Peter Hur, Keith Hurr and Conrad Swan made an impressive score of 101 to secure back to back wins in the event and put themselves on the plane to Jersey.
On a wonderful laid out course and an equally wonderful day the golf was very impressive at Southwold. The Feltwell A team of Mark Robson, Christopher Robson and John Ward pushed the Southwold A team to the limit with the team score of 96 and coming just behind in 3rd place was the Feltwell D team of Ryan Woods, John Brown and Steve Mouncer. With a score of 92 they just beat the Feltwell C team of Darren Masters, Martin Parker and Gerry McGaritty with a better back nine score.
Many thanks to Roger Wilshaw and all of the staff at Southwold for all of their help to make a great day.

Aquarius pour on the power to win at Horne Park
05.05.10
With some very straight and powerful driving Aquarius A Golf Club beat a very good field including the defending UK National Nines Champions Horne Park A to reach the grand final of this competition for the second year in a row.
This regional final was only won on the back nine as at the halfway stage it was anybody’s game. However with scores of 39 points from Martin Vincent, 34 points from Peter Rigby and 33 points from Steve Knowles Aquarius ensured their return to Jersey.
The second place went to Reigate Heath with a score of 31 points from Bill Seldon, 36 points from Alec Lugg and 35 points from Tomas Lowenborg. The third place went to defending champions Horne Park A consisting of John Moore with 34 points, Robbie Haig with 27 points and Mick Bennett with 40 points. The defending champions will know that they and all of the other teams put in a very good effort to win a place for the final in Jersey but in the end Aquarius A are well on their way. Many thanks to Horne Park and all their staff for all of their hard work that went into making a great day of golf.

Eltham Warren storm through at windless Manston
17.04.10
At a course very well known for its windy conditions, it was a day of briiliant sunshine and warmth with not a breath of wind for the first of the mainland UK regional finals.
So on such a wonderful calm spring day it was Eltham Warren Golf Club that provided us with a storm as they blew away the field with an incredible score of 117 points. Leaving their nearest challengers Whitstable & Seasalter B some 7 points adrift and Whitstable & Seasalter B a further 16 points away to come in third.
At the halfway stage it seemed like it was going to be a very close fight for the first UK mainland regional of 2010. Six teams were all within 7 points of each other, but the back nine scores of David Mabbott (17 points), Lawrence Mason (21 points) and Dean Lisbon (22) meant that it was Eltham Warren that stormed through to the Jersey Final as the Manston regional winners.
The course set up was wonderful with the greens being very quick. Many thanks go to Phillip Sparks and his team at Manston for all their hard work getting the course ready and setting up a great bbq lunch. For photos of the event click here

Wheatlands kicks off National Nines 2010
10.04.10
At the start of the qualifying rounds for 2010, the 2010 National Nines Open Golf Championships Channel Islands qualifier took place at Wheatlands Saturday 10th April.
In what turned out to be one of the warmest days so far this year, the teams took on the challenge of the course. The leading team after the back 9 with 46 points was Wheatlands A team, who reached the final at Les Ormes 2 years ago, closest to these were St Pierre Park D team with 43 points.
The back 9 was very close with 5 teams having only 1 point between them. Wheatlands A team stayed strong with 45 points, totalling their score to 91, which made them clear winners. Runners up on 88 points were Wheatlands F team and with 3 teams with 87 points, Wheatlands B team clinched 3rd place after the countback, just pipping last years finalists, Wheatlands E team.
The winners now go onto the Grand Final in September held at Les Ormes Golf Club in Jersey, and will play all the other qualifying teams from across the UK regions, with Manston Golf Club in Kent being the next qualifying event on Saturday 17th April. ____________________________
